Ruth Cheesley, director of Virya Technologies, will be travelling to Boston, Massachusetts to speak at the flagship event in the Joomla! calendar - the Joomla! World Conference. Attracting speakers from around the world, this prestigious event will take place at Harvard University between 8-10 November 2013.
A core part of the company ethos which drives Virya Technologies is to be able to give back to the community. We are always delighted to support local charities, many of whom do an amazing job supporting people across the county. Suffolk LGB&T Network is most definitely one of them.
Over the last two years Virya Technologies have formed a close working relationship with Seatrade, industry leaders in maritime news provision based in nearby Colchester. We have developed several websites for them including Seatrade Insider, Seatrade Asia and our biggest project to date was completed last month - Seatrade Global.
Exciting news for Director of Virya Technologies, Ruth Cheesley who has recently become a member of the Joomla! Community Leadership Team (CLT). Ruth was nominated for the position by members of the Joomla! community and recently she received news after an interview that she had been invited to join the team.
On Friday 15th March the team at Virya Technologies will be celebrating Red Nose Day 2013. In order to 'do something funny for money' we will be strutting our stuff in pyjamas to raise buckets of cash for Comic Relief! The whole team will be getting involved and any meetings, travelling to and from work will be in our pyjamas.
As a company Virya Technologies have been growing over the past two years and the apprentice scheme has been a part of the business model from the start. Director, Ruth Cheesley took on Chris Smith while he was a student for work experience, which then led to Chris applying for an apprenticeship at Virya Technologies. Chris is now a full time employee having completed the programme in October 2012. Virya Technologies now has two more apprentices, Andrew Matthew and Chelsie Abbott, who joined at the end of 2012.

We at Virya Technologies have another satisfied customer on our hands, Mayday Graphic Products Ltd who are graphic arts suppliers to the printing industry, located in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk supplying; litho, web, screen and digital printing companies throughout the UK in particular; The East of England, London, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Virya Technologies joined the Passport to Export scheme which is managed by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) in March 2012, as a result of increasing volumes of international trade and an interest in pursuing overseas projects which required travel to visit the clients.
Back from the New Year and the future looks bright for Virya Technologies. In 2012 Virya Technologies experienced a rapid growth throughout the year since their first apprentice started in October 2011. With two new apprentices starting at the end of 2012, the company has doubled their apprenticeship scheme, which has provided opportunities for young people and increased their capacity. With the busy run up to Christmas, the apprentices have quite literally hit the ground running, getting first hand experience of working in a fast paced business environment. They are now settling into their roles and starting on their NVQ training schemes.

This year Future 50 launched for the first time in Suffolk, and Virya Technologies were delighted to accept a certificate confirming their inclusion in this prestigious group of local businesses at a graduation ceremony, held at the Suffolk Food Hall on 19th November. The Future 50 is a group of 50 businesses in Suffolk which have achieved or show the potential to achieve sustainable business growth.
Virya Technologies have expanded their Apprenticeship scheme to include Marketing and PR apprentices, and have just welcomed their first trainee, Chelsie Abbott. Chelsie will be developing and implementing the Marketing and PR strategy at Virya Technologies while studying towards an NVQ, and achieving a range of other qualifications.
The National Apprenticeship Scheme offers funded training for 16-24 year olds who want to work while they learn. The provision of Marketing apprenticeships is a new scheme to WS Training, and Virya Technologies have jumped at the chance to be involved and support the scheme.
For the past year Chris Smith has been working as an apprentice at Virya Technologies, but this week he took the important step of completing his apprenticeship and becoming a full time Website Developer.
The company has just celebrated its two year anniversary and with Chris being one of the first employees, it just goes to show that young people can make a big difference to small businesses.
Employing young people as apprentices gives them the opportunity to get started in a career which they may not be able to access through other routes, fitting well with Virya Technologies' values as an ethical business which supports community development.
