NEWS: Are you ready to #ChallengeVirya ?

It's less than one week until Walk to Work Week which is a national event held across the UK contributing to National Walking Month. Virya Technologies will be taking part in this week long event and we want as many companies as possible to join or should we say challenge us!

This May, Virya Technologies will be dusting off their walking boots as part of National Walk to Work Week which takes place between 13-17 May. Walk to Work Week is an opportunity for anyone to make an effort to walk more, specifically to and from or during their working day. Along with Walk to School Week (20-24 May), Walk to Work Week forms a part of National Walking Month, an entire month dedicated to get the country walking more.

The gauntlet was thrown when Virya Technologies achieved the highest staff participation rate in Suffolk during the Great British Walking Challenge - no sooner had they finished the challenge, they were facing their next - Bike to Work Week!

In this Olympic year Virya Technologies are embarking on the final stage of their healthy workplace 'triathlon' which has included the Great British Walking Challenge, Bike to Work Week, and from September to December they will swim the distance of the English Channel as part of the Aspire Channel Swim challenge.

It's not often that you find our Director rolling out of bed at 6am .. but this morning that is just what happened! We were invited to attend the Healthy Ambitions Suffolk Awards Ceremony at Trinity Park Conference Centre, to receive our Small Business Award.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is about understanding and acknowledging the impact of our business on the wider world and considering how we can have a positive effect on this.  We take certain steps to ensure that we operate in accordance with our ethical standards:

Virya Technologies were awarded the Healthy Ambitions Suffolk Small Business Award last year in recognition of our efforts to create a healthy workplace.  One of the fun challenges we have been running since January has been the Pedometer Challenge, which Chris (our Web Design Apprentice) has been winning hands down every month!

Virya Technologies, together with the rest of the nation are now 10 days into the Great British Walking Challenge and Chris Smith, Apprentice, is top of the Virya leader board. To date Chris has walked just over109.31 miles, but we at Virya Technologies aren't slacking; between us we have burnt enough calories equivalent to 46 muffins, saved 46.39kg of CO2 emissions, and are at 0.31 times from Land's End to John O'Groats - we're getting there.

This May, people across the UK will be leaving their cars at home and taking to their feet in the Great British Walking Challenge. National Walk to Work Week (14-18) May is one event taking place during the month long challenge which encourages commuters to walk their way to a health lifestyle.

Virya Technologies announce Business Netwalking website to launch during Walk to Work week (14-18 May 2012) promoting walking amongst businesses in the UK.
