Ruth first became involved with the Ipswich & Suffolk Small Business Association (ISSBA) when she happened to connect via LinkedIn with one of the web team, who advised her that they were about to tender for redesigning the website.

Ruth put together a tender and was successful - and the rest as they say is history!

Virya Technologies announce Business Netwalking website to launch during Walk to Work week (14-18 May 2012) promoting walking amongst businesses in the UK.

Netwalking is a term used to describe a new way of networking outside in the fresh air while walking, and is fast becoming a popular way of getting out of the office, meeting other business people, and enjoying nature.

Ruth founded Virya Technologies back in 2006 under the name of Suffolk Computer Services and has worked hard to drive the business forward along an ethical path.  She is a practicing Buddhist within the Triratna Buddhist Community and is in the process of training for ordination.

Ruth has specialised in the Joomla! CMS since 2005/6 and is continuously seeking out exciting new opportunities for developing interesting and varied websites and intranets using this highly versatile system.  As a result of her interest in Joomla! her knowledge and passion for Open Source technologies has developed over the years, leading to the company expanding to providing a range of open source services, from IT support through to emergency linux server recovery.

Ruth grew up in Dorset and moved to East Anglia in 2001 to attend University in Colchester.  She now lives in Ipswich, Suffolk with her partner John and their two cats.  Her interests outside work include Buddhism, Hockey (she plays in goal!), Card making, and Zumba!

Lets face it, most of us have one too many mince pies and not enough exercise over the Christmas period, Virya Technologies are encouraging our staff to make 2012 their healthiest yet with their 2012 pedometer challenge.

As you are probably aware by now, we were the subject of a distributed denial of service attack which commenced on the evening of Monday, 12th December 2012, targeted against the IP of our server. This article is hopefully an explanation of exactly what happened, a timeline of events, and what we are doing to prevent it happening again. We also hope it answers some questions you might have about the process we went through to recover the sites.

Quote of the day

You can't build a reputation on what you are going to do. Henry Ford

Challenge of the day

Today's challenge is to go out of your way to help at least one person. This can be anything, from getting them a drink while they're busy to giving them a hand doing something.

Charity of the day

The charity of the day is the Ipswich Furniture Trust.

Ipswich Furniture Project has been operational as a registered charity since 1989. The project is here to assist people of any age, whose needs may vary from a single item, to a complete house full of furniture. In common with most other furniture and appliance re-use charities, Ipswich Furniture Project was formed with the express desire to alleviate poverty and provide a social need to those disadvantaged and socially excluded, by providing decent quality furniture and white goods to any persons on a low income who lives in the Borough of Ipswich or surrounding area who could not, for whatever reasons, afford to purchase items to furnish their homes from conventional retailers.

You can make a donation to help!

Quote of the day

If you don't like something, change it.  If you can't chaneg it, change your attitude.  Don't complain.  Maya Angelou

Challenge of the day

Your challenge for today is to express your gratitude to somebody or something for which you are grateful.  All too often we forget to thank those who make us what we are, support us in our ventures, and pick us up when we fall - it can really make somebody's day to be told that somebody is grateful to them - give it a try!

Charity of the day

tallshipstrustThe charity of the day is the Tall Ships Youth Trust (formerly the Sail Training Association), giving young people the opportunity of a lifetime to join a Tall Ship, learn about seamanship and teambuilding, while developing confidence and skills which are transferrable to everyday life.  Over 70% of the young people joining a Tall Ships adventure are disadvantaged or disabled, and having the opportunity to experience life at sea can be life-changing for these youngsters.

I spent a lot of my late teens heavily involved with Poole Sea Cadets and saw just how much people put into developing young people through maritime activities, and the Tall Ships Youth Trust is a wonderful way of giving young people an experience they will never forget.

You can make a donation, or become a supporter - maybe even consider sponsoring a berth for a year!  Every donation makes a big difference to young people - so please do consider donating.
