Like an excited child at Christmas, I ripped open the packaging of my new Android smartphone and was a bit disappointed by the tiny package I found ... but what a world it opened up to me!  Having played around for a couple of months I can definitely see the future in slim clients using web-based clients - which is exaclty what Mozilla are proposing in the way of an open-source lightweight mobile operating system quirkily named Boot to Gecko (B2G).

It wasn't too long ago that people using anything other than Windows as their operating systems were considered to be geeky boffins with some innate ability to control a computer by typing in commands to a black screen and who were determined to hack the world to death with a single mouse click ..... are the tides changing?

A while ago I posted about our in-house challenge to try and adopt each other's specialities in an exercise of broadening our knowledge and trying out new technologies .. my side of the bargain was to try out Linux as my main Operating System (OS).  Here's how I'm getting on so far!

Many people call me a geek, but my geekiness pales in comparison to Ben, our IT Manager.  For too long he has been pestering me to get used to using Linux and for too long I've been giving excuses .... and unfortunately I've just about exhausted them all!  So, in an exchange of roles, Ben is trying Joomla! out to design some websites, and I'm going to be taking Linux for a ride .... and blogging about it along the way too!

While some people are happy to publicly display the Joomla! Copyright, it is not required and it may not be appropriate on some sites (or may need altering to show different information).  Here's how you do it!

I'd done this a thousand times before, but had a bit of a moment and couldn't remember which file to edit.  Having searched the Virtuemart Forums with no joy, I set about some detective work to sniff out where the file resided and what needed removing!

We are often approached, as are many Joomla! developers, by those unfortunate enough to have their websites exploited for one reason or another, asking us to fix the immediate problem and also secure their site against future attacks.  Needless to say this can be quite costly, not ownly in our fees but also in terms of business downtime and potential loss of clients visiting your sites, and loss of confidence (particularly with Ecommerce sites).  Here are some basic tips to help you secure your site and prevent this happening in the first place.

Are you sick of receiving spam submissions on your Joomla! website forms?  Do you have spam bots sign up for accounts and post on your forums?  There are several options available to you nowadays to work against these pesky spammers!

GPL stands for General Public License and is sometimes referred to as GNU GPL.  GNU stands for "GNU's Not Unix" and is a computer operating system composed entirely of free software.  GNU was developed by Richard Stallman, and was provided under the GNU General Public License (GPL).  Although the GNU GPL was originally intended for the GNU operating system, it was quickly adopted by lots of other free software.  It has undergone several revisions, and there are a few "sub-types", with the latest version of GNU-GPL being version 3.
