Many people call me a geek, but my geekiness pales in comparison to Ben, our IT Manager.  For too long he has been pestering me to get used to using Linux and for too long I've been giving excuses .... and unfortunately I've just about exhausted them all!  So, in an exchange of roles, Ben is trying Joomla! out to design some websites, and I'm going to be taking Linux for a ride .... and blogging about it along the way too!

Some of the most frequently used excuses in the office have been:

• I don't have time
• Most of my software won't work on it
• I don't know command line well enough
• It won't 'just work' - I'll spend too long making stuff work
• It's going to reduce my productivity learning new stuff

Over the next couple of weeks we're going to be transitioning to Linux servers and desktops/laptops, so I'll be taken on a roller coaster of geekiness and will be blogging along the way (and making lots of tutorials hopefully to help other people in the process!).  Hopefully this won't result in too much disruption along the way but I'm sure if you follow me on Twitter you'll hear any frustrations being vented!  I do, however, have a very cute inflatable Tux penguin in the office to keep me company from Open Source Matters which was presented at Joomla!Day UK 2010!

Now where did I put that Linux for Dummies book?!?!
