So you set up your Joomla! site, made it live, and a few weeks/months/years later realised that you'd forgotten to enable the HTAccess file for SEF URL's. The end result being that rather than having a nice Search Engine (and user) friendly URL like /category/Blogs/post/, you instead have /index.php/category/Blogs/post/.

You could just enable the HTAccess file, but all the old URL's will return a 404. Not great if your site has already been indexed by search engines, even less great if you've got lots of inbound links on other sites.

It's actually incredibly simple to resolve, and in this post I'll be showing you the two easy steps you need to take to configure your site to redirect the old /index.php/* URLs to the nice SEF ones you want.

I've spent the last few days over at Joomla! and Beyond in Bad Nauheim, Germany - an international Joomla! conference which brings together Joomla! people from over 30 countries.

Although I've been involved in running Joomla! User Group Suffolk and Joomla! Day UK events for the past few years, I've never yet travelled abroad for a Joomla! event, so it was a first for me!

I've always harped on about the Joomla! community and how it was what originally drew me to Joomla! (I've probably already bored you with my stories of having to figure out from the forums what the default username was when installing Joomla! 1.0.x!) and I still stand by the fact that the community is the most important element of the JoomlaSphere.

We had a client report that their attachments on K2 articles would not download - giving an error message in the source code initially, and then subsequently a 404 error. On investigating we identified that the latest version of K2 handles attachments slightly differently.

We came across a problem getting a Joomla! 1.7.1 vanilla install to work on a Windows server at one of our clients - during the installation process it was not able to create the _menu table - everything else seemed to work OK!

I came across an interesting problem with a module in Joomla! 1.7 which appeared to have available settings in the parameters of the module, but they were not showing in the back end of Joomla's administration portal.
