We were contacted by a company who have several dedicated servers using the Plesk interface provided by Parallels to manage the user interface (a common alternative to CPanel).  Their server had been taken down as it had been compromised via a recently released, critical vulnerability with Parallels Plesk affecting versions 7.6.1 – 10.3.1.

We received a call just after midnight from a server administrator who was having difficulties with his mail server - to the point that his international clients were unable to receive email at the middle of their peak period.  Nobody else picked up the phone ... we did!

A while ago I posted about our in-house challenge to try and adopt each other's specialities in an exercise of broadening our knowledge and trying out new technologies .. my side of the bargain was to try out Linux as my main Operating System (OS).  Here's how I'm getting on so far!

Many people call me a geek, but my geekiness pales in comparison to Ben, our IT Manager.  For too long he has been pestering me to get used to using Linux and for too long I've been giving excuses .... and unfortunately I've just about exhausted them all!  So, in an exchange of roles, Ben is trying Joomla! out to design some websites, and I'm going to be taking Linux for a ride .... and blogging about it along the way too!
